In an eagerly awaited announcement, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) revealed the much-anticipated schedule for the 50th edition of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), set to dazzle audiences this December.
Leading the press conference was MMDA’s acting Chair, Romando Artes, who also serves as the concurrent head of the MMFF executive committee. Artes disclosed that Manila has been chosen as the esteemed host city for this milestone event.
This year’s MMFF promises to be exceptional, with the selection committee tasked with curating eight official entries, split evenly between four script-based entries and four completed films.
The MMFF festival calendar has been outlined as follows: the deadline for the submission of the letter of intent is set for May 15, followed by the submission of scripts and other necessary documents by June 14. Filmmakers aiming to submit finished films based on the selected scripts must do so by September 30. The much-awaited Parade of Stars is scheduled for December 15, marking the grand commencement of festivities. Audiences can catch the official film entries from December 25 to January 7, 2025, with the awards night slated for December 27.
Chair Artes further elaborated on the MMFF’s commitment to nurturing emerging talents by announcing the return of the MMFF Student Short Film Caravan. This initiative aims to provide budding filmmakers with a platform to showcase their creativity and expertise.
With the stage set for a spectacular celebration of Philippine cinema’s golden jubilee, anticipation is running high amongst filmmakers, enthusiasts, and the general public alike. As the MMFF gears up for its historic 50th edition, all eyes are on Manila, poised to host an unforgettable cinematic extravaganza.
