In a formal ceremony held on September 7, 2023, the Philippine Ambassador to Spain, Philippe J. Lhuillier, officially took on the role of Chairman for the ASEAN Committee in Madrid (ACM). The turnover ceremony occurred at the Official Residence of the Philippine Ambassador in Madrid, marking the beginning of Ambassador Lhuillier’s tenure at the helm of this vital diplomatic committee.

In his Acceptance Remarks, Ambassador Lhuillier highlighted the enduring significance of diplomacy, cooperation, and mutual understanding as the core principles guiding the collaborative efforts of the ACM. He called upon his fellow Ambassadors to rally behind the establishment of strong bilateral relations between each member state of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Spain. Ambassador Lhuillier also stressed Spain’s substantial role as a crucial partner for ASEAN, contributing significantly to both economic and cultural exchanges between the regions.

The ACM consists of the embassies of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam in Madrid. Under Ambassador Lhuillier’s leadership, it is expected to continue fostering cooperation and strengthening ties between ASEAN member states and Spain in various fields, further enhancing the enduring relationship between these nations.
