In a surprising move, Sony has unveiled the PlayStation 5 Slim, also known as the PS5 2023 variant, just three years after the initial launch of the highly popular PlayStation 5. This slim version comes with an array of exciting features, and one of the most notable is its detachable Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive.

According to Sony, this new, more compact model retains all the technological prowess of the standard PS5 while managing to reduce its size significantly. The PS5 Slim boasts a 30 percent reduction in volume, an 18 percent decrease in weight, and a 24 percent decrease in size compared to previous PS models. It also sports a sleek design with four distinct cover panels, featuring a glossy top and a matte bottom.
One of the most intriguing features of the PS5 Slim is the detachable disc drive. Unlike the standard PS5, the Slim version includes a bulge on its side that houses the disc drive. This drive can be removed and replaced, providing users with the flexibility to choose between physical and digital media.
Moreover, the PS5 Slim offers enhanced connectivity options. It features dual USB-C connectors on the front, replacing the previous PS5’s single USB-C and USB-A ports. This means users can connect more peripherals and accessories with ease.
Sony has also listened to customer feedback and included a horizontal stand with the Slim version, offering stability and support when placing the console horizontally. Previously, a vertical stand was available for purchase separately for all PS5 variants.
