In a dynamic showcase of collaboration and innovation, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) partnered with Asia Pacific College to present ‘CHEDx 2023 | Experience, Exchange, Explore.’ This groundbreaking IT summit unfolded on November 23-24, 2023, at SM Megatrade Halls 2 & 3, SM Megamall B, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila.

The digital transformation era is reshaping the workplace at an unprecedented pace, driven by analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), automation, cybersecurity, and the Internet of Things (IoT). The traditional models of work are giving way to an environment that adapts to individual needs, challenging us to reconsider education, workforce readiness, and societal progress.

CHEDx 2023 aimed to bridge the IT and IT-BPM sector with the academe, fostering collaborative efforts to enhance work readiness and skill-backed employability. The summit sought to cultivate an atmosphere of collaboration, open dialogue, and forward thinking, providing delegates and industry professionals with the knowledge, tools, and networks essential to navigate the evolving workplace confidently and purposefully.

Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) nationwide were invited to send graduating IT students, faculty, and administrators, emphasizing the responsibility of the academe to cultivate innovators and individuals capable of harnessing technology for the greater good.

The summit featured an illustrious lineup of experts and thought leaders who shared insights and experiences, guiding participants through the intricacies of the technological revolution. Day 1 covered topics such as IT Skills Development, Cybersecurity, Cloud Technology, and AI, while Day 2 delved into subjects like the Role of Higher Education in Fostering Trustworthy AI, Analytics and Sustainability, and presentations from various industry associations.

Esteemed speakers included Ms. Aileen Judan-Jiao, President and Country General Manager of IBM Philippines, Mr. Monchito Ibrahim, and Dr. John Paul Vergara, among others, representing a diverse spectrum of expertise within the IT field.

Beyond informative talks, CHEDx 2023 featured an engaging exhibit area, showcasing leading companies and institutions in the IT sector. Participants explored technological innovations, robotics, and experienced speed mentoring sessions provided by the Contact Center Association of the Philippines.

The summit’s overarching goals were to encourage curriculum alignment with the new workplace, nurture industry-ready graduates, and foster partnerships between industry and HEIs to address the skills gap. Supported by CHED, the summit aimed to propose policy recommendations, as highlighted in the “Way Forward” closing address from Dr. Cherrie Melanie Ancheta-Diego, CESO III, Office of Programs and Standards Development.

CHEDx 2023 marked the initial stride toward unifying the academe, industry, and government for responsive curricula, enhanced graduate development, and collaborative efforts to build a vibrant and skilled workforce. As technology continues to shape our country and the world, the summit’s success sets the stage for future gatherings aimed at navigating the evolving landscape with innovation and unity.
