Netflix subscribers in the Philippines are set to see an increase in their monthly bills starting June 1, 2025, following the implementation of a new law that imposes a 12% value-added tax (VAT) on digital services.

The change comes as part of Republic Act No. 12023, signed into law by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on October 2, 2024. The legislation mandates VAT collection from foreign digital service providers operating in the country, which includes global tech giants and streaming platforms.

Netflix has already updated its pricing details on its Help Center and sign-up page as of May 6 and began notifying users via email about the adjustments. Here are the updated monthly subscription rates:

  • Mobile: ₱169 (from ₱149)
  • Basic: ₱279 (from ₱249)
  • Standard: ₱449 (from ₱399)
  • Premium: ₱619 (from ₱549)
  • Additional member slots (Standard & Premium): ₱169 (from ₱149)

While Netflix is the first major platform to reflect the VAT-related adjustments, other digital services such as Disney+, Prime Video, Max, Spotify, and Apple Music are also anticipated to revise their pricing in the coming weeks.

The Department of Finance projects that the new tax policy will bring in ₱102.12 billion in additional revenue between 2025 and 2028.
