Hey June! — the indie pop-rock trio composed of Jim Mase, Coey Ballesteros, and Aci Fodra — is enjoying a well-deserved spotlight after their single “Lasik” secured the No. 1 spot on Spotify Philippines’ Viral 50 chart for June 2025.
Originally released as part of their debut album Curiosity Killed the Cat in November 2023, “Lasik” offers a clever lyrical metaphor, telling the story of someone whose “blurry vision” is suddenly cleared after meeting someone special. With its infectious melody and emotionally resonant lyrics, the track has captured the attention of listeners across the country — and beyond.
The album also features standout tracks such as “Curiosity Killed the Cat,” “Orasan,” “Sino Mali,” “Asan Ang Gana Ko,” “Back to You,” “Katulad Mo,” and “Biglang Taob,” all showcasing the band’s knack for mixing sincerity with sonic experimentation.
Despite being released nearly two years ago, “Lasik” has found new life on TikTok and Instagram Reels, making its way into the playlists — and hearts — of thousands. The track also cracked Billboard Philippines’ Top Philippine Songs chart, landing at No. 20 for the week of July 5, 2025.
The song’s viral success is fueled not just by organic listens, but also by support from notable personalities like BINI Maloi, Shuvee Etrata and Bianca de Vera from Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab, Sharlene San Pedro, Adie, and Zild Benitez, who have all featured the track in their social media content.
Formed in June 2021, Hey June! took its name as an ode to the month their musical journey began. Since then, they’ve steadily built a loyal following, earning critical acclaim and clinching the Breakthrough Artist of the Year award at the 36th Awit Awards in 2023. Their energetic performances have graced stages at the Philippine Music Festival, REV Music Festival, Malaya Music Fest, and even served as the opening act for Moonstar88’s “25 Years of Torete” anniversary concert.
With the resurgence of “Lasik,” Hey June! proves that sometimes, all a great song needs is the right moment — and the right audience — to truly shine.
