SM Hotels and Convention Corp. (SMHCC), the hospitality division of SM Prime Holdings Inc., is making bold moves to accelerate its expansion across the Philippines—an initiative poised to bolster regional tourism and local economies.
With plans to introduce over 1,300 new hotel rooms by 2029, SMHCC will grow its current footprint from 10 to 17 hotels nationwide, raising its room count from 2,602 to 3,923—a remarkable 51% increase. Most of this growth, including 969 new rooms, is targeted for completion by 2028.
To power this expansion, the company has allocated P10 billion in capital expenditures, fully funded through internally generated resources. This move reflects SMHCC’s strong financial standing and commitment to long-term growth in the tourism sector.
“This expansion aligns with our vision of supporting regional tourism while enhancing our integrated communities,” said Peggy Angeles, Executive Vice President of SMHCC. “We are confident in the resilience and continued development of the Philippine travel industry.”
The expansion leans heavily on the trusted Park Inn by Radisson brand, with six new hotels under this label and one under the Radisson name. These additions will cater to both the midscale and upscale markets, strategically co-located with SM Prime’s malls, convention centers, and mixed-use developments for maximum synergy and convenience.
Going Beyond Metro Manila
What sets this growth strategy apart is its regional focus. While Metro Manila gains only one of the seven new hotels, the majority will rise in emerging travel hotspots:
- Calabarzon
- Central Luzon
- Cebu
- Laoag
These areas were carefully chosen based on rising tourism activity, regional accessibility, and their proximity to existing SM Prime assets.
A Growing Portfolio for All Kinds of Travelers
SMHCC’s existing properties already serve a wide range of guests—from luxury tourists to business travelers. Flagship locations like Conrad Manila, Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu, and Taal Vista Hotel have established SM Hotels as a major player in the hospitality scene. Meanwhile, Park Inn by Radisson locations offer reliable comfort and convenience in key urban centers.
According to Angeles, SMHCC’s properties are more than just places to stay—they are economic catalysts. “Our hotels not only provide quality accommodations but also stimulate local economies. We are deeply committed to creating long-term value by driving job creation, supporting tourism, and contributing to the growth of SM Prime’s diversified businesses.”
As regional tourism continues to grow, SMHCC is firmly positioned to play a leading role—ensuring that the comfort of world-class accommodations meets the pulse of local culture and development.
