The world has entered a new era of modern and online-based culture in recent years. The dating scene in the Philippines has also been affected by this shift, particularly for young adults who are getting acclimated to a life of freedom and independence following the pandemic and quarantine regulations.
When it comes to dating, younger Filipinos are less likely to use traditional courting methods which are known by the older generation as the norm, according to Tinder Future of Dating 2020 poll of individuals aged 18 to 25 in the Philippines. Dating behaviors and attitudes will change for the better in the long run as a result of this change in thinking. So, if you’re looking for a partner or simply curious as to what exactly dating even looks like these days, keep in mind these six traits of young Pinoy adults dating in 2022.
- Keeping Dates Simple
73% of Pinoy young adults prefer casual dates like getting a coffee and wandering through urban areas, which contrasts with the dating style of the older generation. Respondents said that a first date should include a meal at a budget-friendly restaurant in order to get to know each other better. Third place goes to classic movie dates since young Pinoys adore the idea.
- Connection is Key!
Most young Filipino online daters (88%) are looking for someone they can trust and confide in, according to a Tinder survey of Filipino online daters. More than half of those polled said they would want to date someone who is open and welcoming, and who can make them laugh. In addition, 74% of those polled said they want a partner with whom they feel comfortable discussing their wants and requirements and who also shares their values.
- Finding “The One” Isn’t Off The Table
86% of those polled said they were dating in the hopes of finding “the one” or a long-term partner. Sixty-one percent of people date to achieve happiness and 43% date for intimacy. According to a study, some people date to avoid loneliness, while others date to increase their self-esteem.
- A Common Interest Has To Be There
Among those who were asked what has kept them from dating, 56% answered that they don’t like making the first move, while 43% said that they are uncomfortable doing so. Having a common interest, on the other hand, will make communication a lot easier. So, in order to better serve its users, Tinder has created the Explore area, which contains several categories based on the interests of its users. For many singles in the past, this has helped them find their perfect mate because people are drawn to those with whom they share a mutual interest the most.=
- Not Afraid To Make The First Move
In spite of respondents’ fear of making the first move, young Pinoy online daters aren’t scared to provide subtle signals to indicate their amorous intention. 78% of people who are looking for a romantic relationship said they will initiate frequent online chats to keep the lines of communication open. While 59% will ask the person they’re interested in out, and 57% will send memes, stickers, and GIFs to show how they feel.
- Being Upfront And Authentic
The majority of Pinoy daters surveyed (61%) want to have an open and honest talk with the person they’re dating, while 20% prefer to take their time and see where things go before deciding whether or not they want to continue the relationship. For this generation, dating is a way to learn more about the people they’re going out with. It was shown that 37% of Filipino daters chose to date a potential partner 3-4 times before making up their minds about continuing their relationship. However, 32% of those polled indicated they can make up their minds after just one or two dates.
Takeaway
In spite of the fact that the dating landscape has evolved significantly over the course of the past few decades, it is abundantly clear that the youth of today in the Philippines are still hopelessly romantic and still yearn for their lifelong companion at the end of the day, even if this means keeping things straightforward and simple in sharp contrast to the way that previous generations approached dating. It doesn’t matter how you look at it, the way young Filipinos of today discover love is better in every sense.
