The RP Blu Girls fell short during their first tournament match of the Women’s Softball World Cup 2024 against current world number 5 Canada at the Castions di Strada and Buttrio in Friuli-Venezia Giulia Italy.
The RP Blu Girls entered the field feeling motivated and confident, however, their Canadian counterparts proved themselves too much in all seven innings and ended the match with a 5-0 record.
ASAPHIL President Jean Henri Lhuillier stated that he is still hopeful and believes that the girls can overcome this loss. “Our opponents were indeed tough and proved to be better than us this time. But moving forward, the team has re-strategized and have learned from their mistakes which could hopefully help them bounce back against the remaining contenders. “
The Rp Blu Girls are slated to go up against the champions of the recent Women’s Softball Asia Cup 2023 and Japan, 11:00pm PH time on July 23, 2023. Ensuing matches will be against Venezuela, Italy and New Zealand. The only country outranked by the Philippines’ Blu Girls, which is currently ranked 26th, is New Zealand which is 29th.
To advance to the Top 8, the RP Blu Girls have to beat four teams and finish second in their group.
