Garmin Smartwatches Just Got Smarter with Google Maps Integration
Getting lost on your way to a new café or meeting? Garmin is making that a thing of the past. The company has officially rolled out Google Maps support for its smartwatches, giving users turn-by-turn directions right on their wrists—no need to constantly pull out your phone.
Available now as a free download via the Connect IQ Store, the Google Maps app provides vibration alerts and on-screen notifications for every direction, syncing directly with your Android device. Once you set your destination in the Google Maps app on your phone, your Garmin watch takes over, guiding you step-by-step while you’re on the move.
Currently, only Android devices are supported, even though the Connect IQ app is available on the Apple App Store. And while Google Maps has long been available for Apple Watch and Wear OS devices (with bonus features like offline maps), this update marks a major step forward for Garmin—especially for users who rely on their wearables for outdoor fitness and adventure.
If you’re a fan of Garmin’s Venu, Forerunner, Vivoactive, or Fenix series, you’re in luck—these models are among the first to support the new integration. And the best part? Using Google Maps on your Garmin won’t interfere with your workout tracking. You can still log your runs, walks, or bike rides without a hitch.
For anyone navigating urban streets, exploring new trails, or just trying to find that tucked-away coffee shop, the addition of Google Maps to Garmin wearables is a game-changer for convenience and versatility.
