Jean Henri Lhuillier, San Marino Consulate Open 30th Hooked on Books Library in Manila

A new reading space has opened for young learners in Sampaloc, Manila, as Jean Henri Lhuillier, through the Consulate General of the Republic of San Marino–Philippines, joined LINKS Philippines in launching the 30th Hooked on Books library.

The JHL-RSM Library was unveiled at Graciano Lopez Jaena Elementary School, marking a milestone for the literacy program and its mission to make reading more accessible to Filipino children.

The project brings together education leaders, community partners, volunteers, and private sector supporters who share one goal: to help students discover the value of books, imagination, and lifelong learning.

A New Reading Space for Young Learners

The JHL-RSM Library is designed as a vibrant and welcoming space where students can read, learn, ask questions, and explore new ideas.

As the 30th installation of the Hooked on Books program, the library supports curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and a stronger appreciation for reading.

For students of Graciano Lopez Jaena Elementary School, the new library is more than a school facility. It is a safe place where learning feels open, inspiring, and within reach.

Education as a Long-Term Investment

Jean Henri Lhuillier said education remains one of the most powerful investments for the next generation.

He described the library as more than a milestone, saying it creates opportunities to transform lives through reading.

“When we give children access to knowledge, imagination, and a safe space to learn, we give them the confidence to dream bigger and create a better future,” Lhuillier said.

As Honorary Consul of the Republic of San Marino to the Philippines, Lhuillier has supported initiatives that connect education, culture, and community development.

Partners Behind the Milestone

The launch gathered stakeholders from the education sector and partner organizations committed to expanding literacy opportunities for Filipino children.

The initiative was supported by the City Government of Manila under the leadership of Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso.

Also present during the launch were Maria Consuelo Doble, President of LINKS Philippines; Dr. Sheryll T. Gayola, Manila City Schools Division Superintendent; and Jinabelle Prieto, Principal of Graciano Lopez Jaena Elementary School.

Their participation reflected the shared effort needed to sustain learning programs that directly benefit public school communities.

Built Through Collaboration

The JHL-RSM Library was brought to life through the help of Cebuana Lhuillier employee-volunteers and partner organizations.

Support came from Boysen, Tosot, Ilaw Atbp., Bookmark, UP GEOP, and Archispace Design Inc.

Each partner helped shape the library, from design and development to creating a more conducive and colorful learning environment for students.

Literacy programs matter because they create access.

For many students, a library is not just a room with books. It is a place where they can build confidence, improve comprehension, discover stories beyond their surroundings, and imagine wider possibilities for their future.

The 30th Hooked on Books library shows what can happen when schools, civic partners, private organizations, and volunteers work together around one meaningful purpose.

At Graciano Lopez Jaena Elementary School, the new JHL-RSM Library opens another door for young learners—one book, one story, and one dream at a time.
