At Far Eastern University (FEU), the arts aren’t just celebrated—they’re transformative.
Abraham Diolanda, a medical biology student, joined the FEU Chorale at the height of the pandemic hoping for a creative outlet. What he discovered instead was a second family, a safe space that nurtured his voice, leadership, and self-worth. Abraham’s journey is one of many shaped by the FEU Center for the Arts (FCA), a hub where student-artists don’t just perform—they grow, lead, and inspire.
The FCA is home to a vibrant ensemble of cultural organizations, including the FEU Chorale, Dance Company, Bamboo Band, Drum and Bugle Corps, Drummers, Guides, and Theater Guild. Each group is student-led and purpose-driven, creating platforms where discipline, empathy, and creativity thrive hand in hand. Participation isn’t limited to arts and humanities students; the FCA proudly embraces individuals from all disciplines, including those in STEM—proving that artistry and academia can coexist harmoniously.
For Danyel Reyes, an alumnus of the FEU Dance Company, the arts provided opportunities far beyond his expectations. From performing at international dance festivals in South Korea and Taiwan to building a career in advertising and professional dance, his FEU experience laid a foundation of excellence and resilience.
FEU’s role as a cultural leader was recently underscored when it hosted the 11th National Conference of the Association of Cultural Offices in Philippine Educational Institutions, Inc. (ACOPEI). The event convened national leaders, educators, and creatives to affirm the vital role of the arts in student development. Further cementing FEU’s commitment, FCA Director Martin Lopez was elected ACOPEI president, where he now steers national efforts to create inclusive, nurturing environments for student-artists across the country.
The FCA’s reach is expansive, welcoming over 300 students every semester. Many benefit from FEU’s generous scholarship programs, which provide opportunities regardless of socioeconomic background. Aulwin Ortiz, a former FEU Drummer, credits the FCA for helping him rise above financial challenges and find purpose and belonging within a diverse and supportive community.
These student-artists don’t just thrive locally—they shine on global stages. From winning accolades at Bali’s Asia Choral Grand Prix to showcasing Filipino creativity at South Korea’s Andong Mask Festival, FCA groups continually elevate the Philippines’ cultural presence abroad. Back home, they enrich the FEU experience through beloved campus traditions like Tamdula, Pasko sa Piyu, and the Marching Band Festival.
At FEU, the arts are not an extracurricular luxury—they are essential. They build bridges, amplify voices, and shape tomorrow’s leaders. Through the unwavering work of the FCA and its growing influence nationwide, FEU continues to redefine what it means to educate: nurturing not only intellect but heart, spirit, and soul.
