Grab Philippines has officially launched GrabTaxi Electric—the country’s first fully electric, on-demand taxi fleet recognized by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB). This new service, now in its beta phase, is already operating in key areas of Metro Manila such as Makati, Taguig, Pasig, Mandaluyong, Pasay, and Parañaque.

A Green Ride for Every Juan

Available now through the familiar Grab app, commuters can easily book an electric taxi by simply tapping the Transport tab, where GrabTaxi Electric sits alongside standard GrabCar 4-seater and 6-seater options. What makes this ride different? It’s quieter, cleaner, and more aligned with the growing demand for sustainable urban transport.

The all-electric fleet is powered by a partnership between Grab and EV Taxi Corp, bringing together innovation and mobility with a conscience. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to environmental sustainability while addressing the everyday commuting needs of Filipinos.

Tested, Proven, and Ready to Roll

GrabTaxi Electric builds on the success of a June 2024 pilot study conducted in collaboration with BYD Philippines, which showed not only the feasibility of electric vehicles (EVs) for ride-hailing, but also their strong economic potential for operators and drivers. The results? Lower operating costs, less environmental impact, and a scalable model for greener transportation.

“This is not just about offering another ride option,” said Ronald Roda, Country Head of Grab Philippines. “It’s about fundamentally changing the DNA of urban transport in the Philippines—one that aligns with our sustainability commitments, empowers Filipino commuters, and creates meaningful green livelihoods.”

Commuters and Climate Advocates Say Yes

GrabTaxi Electric has garnered praise from commuter groups and private sector partners who see it as a win-win for the environment and everyday travelers. As the service moves through its beta rollout, both passenger and driver feedback will be crucial in shaping future upgrades and possible expansion beyond Metro Manila.

EV Taxi Corp President Frankie Ang emphasized the power of collaboration: “Our partnership with Grab proves that when multinational platforms and local innovators work together, we can fast-track a cleaner, more inclusive future for transport – one that delivers value for both passengers and drivers alike.”

More Than Just a Ride

This move is part of Grab’s larger eco-mobility strategy, which aims to deploy electric vehicles in other Philippine cities like Davao and Cagayan de Oro later this year. Grab also plans to roll out in-app sustainability features, such as voluntary environmental contributions, giving users a direct way to support green initiatives with every ride.

GrabTaxi Electric comes hot on the heels of Green GSM’s all-VinFast EV fleet announcement, marking a clear signal that the shift toward electrified mobility in the Philippines is accelerating.

As Grab leads the charge, Filipino commuters are now one tap away from making a smarter, cleaner choice—because the future of transport isn’t just coming. It’s already here.
