In response to the devastating effects of the intensified southwest monsoon across Luzon, Grab and its motorcycle taxi arm MOVE IT have rolled out a robust disaster relief initiative and community support program. Thousands have been displaced, and livelihoods disrupted, prompting the mobility and tech platform to spring into action with both immediate and long-term recovery plans.
The initiative is coordinated with local government units and national agencies to ensure timely and effective relief for Grab’s vast ecosystem of drivers, delivery partners, merchants, and consumers.
Grab Philippines Managing Director Ronald Roda expressed the company’s deep concern and commitment, stating, “Our hearts go out to the communities hardest hit by this week’s inclement weather. At Grab, we believe our role as a platform goes beyond connecting services – it means showing up when it matters most.”
Roda also emphasized Grab’s full mobilization, aiming to help Filipinos recover through targeted assistance, including medical support and financial aid.
Support for Drivers and Riders
Under its GrabCare and MOVE IT Malasakit programs, Grab is extending financial and welfare support to affected partners. This includes:
- Calamity Assistance – A one-time grant for partners whose vehicles were damaged by the typhoon.
- Medical and Hospitalization Support – In partnership with Cocolife, Grab is covering emergency room and hospitalization costs.
- Loan Repayment Holiday – Temporarily suspending microloan payments for qualified drivers in heavily affected areas like Metro Manila, Baguio, and Pampanga.
Grab’s Emergency Response Unit (ERU) is also on high alert to support partners and passengers, coordinating closely with emergency services.
Ongoing Relief and Community Involvement

Looking ahead, Grab has initiated coordination efforts with LGUs for clean-up drives and additional relief operations. It has also reactivated GrabBayanihan, allowing users to convert GrabRewards points into donations for McDonald’s Kindness Kitchen and World Vision.
This redemption-based initiative empowers users to support relief efforts with vouchers valued at PHP20, PHP50, or PHP100 — redeemable for as low as 60 points.
A Platform for Resilience
The Grab disaster relief initiative is part of Grab’s broader mission to foster national resilience and social impact. From small businesses to underserved communities, Grab’s ecosystem is built to serve and uplift.
Grab is also reinforcing its long-term community support program, aimed at building a more inclusive and responsive platform that stands with Filipinos in times of crisis.
“We see ourselves not just as a technology provider, but as a partner to the nation – one that responds, supports, and stands alongside Filipinos in times of great need,” added Roda.
Through GrabBayanihan, Malasakit programs, and continuous collaboration with public and private partners, Grab’s disaster relief initiative highlights the platform’s enduring dedication to community resilience and nation-building.
