The energy was electric, the beats were unpredictable, and the passion for freestyle dance took center stage as Cebu hosted the Red Bull Dance Your Style Philippines National Final for the first time on May 24 at Ayala Center Cebu. The Queen City of the South bore witness to a fierce showdown among the nation’s top dancers—but only one could rise above.
That one was Sam Rivera, aka Nemesis, a homegrown talent who claimed her long-awaited victory in front of an ecstatic Cebuano crowd. After three years of persistence and grit, Nemesis finally earned the national title in her hometown—a moment she described as deeply emotional and personally fulfilling.
“This is my third time joining Red Bull Dance Your Style, and winning here in Cebu makes it even more meaningful,” she shared. “It’s not just for me—it’s for my family, my friends, and my community who’ve supported me from day one.”
Known for her intense krump style, Nemesis delivered round after round of high-voltage performances, feeding off the energy of her crowd. In a competition where the audience alone chooses the winner, her connection to the crowd proved unbeatable.
“The Cebuano crowd carried me,” she added. “The love and support from my community made me feel powerful on stage.”
More than just a competition, the event became a vibrant showcase of Cebu’s creativity. The night featured stellar sets from local talents, including viral Cebuana singer Karencitta and dynamic dance crew SZHD, further cementing Cebu’s place on the Philippine dance map.
With the win, Nemesis secures her ticket to the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final in Los Angeles this October—marking her first trip beyond Asia and the start of a new chapter in her dance journey.
“I’ll just be myself,” she said. “I want to show the world how I krump and what Filipino dancers can do. My focus is to train not just my body, but also my mind and spirit.”
As she steps onto the global stage, Nemesis carries with her not just her talent, but the dreams and pride of an entire nation. All eyes are now on Los Angeles, where this Cebuana champion is set to show the world the true power of Filipino freestyle.
