SM City Bataan became the hub of youth empowerment on August 22, 2025 as it hosted the Global Youth Summit (GYS) 2025. The nationwide initiative of SM Cares, in partnership with the Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Philippines, brought together 300 student leaders, innovators, and advocates from Bataan.
The summit provided a platform for participants to exchange ideas and take part in collaborative activities that advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Notable speakers included Ranze Calderon, Executive Director of Youth Force PH, Kier Aventurado, Program Director of the Youth Development Office, Dr. Jayvie Villazor of BPSU Medical, Danica Lolita Tigas of the Provincial Tourism Office, and Congressman Antonino Roman III. They discussed pressing issues tied to SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
Participants also witnessed performances from Teatrong Bayan, adding vibrancy to the discussions.
Engr. Jose S. Singca Jr., Building Administration Manager of SM City Bataan, emphasized the importance of adapting to technological change. “Sa panahon ng AI, kailangan nating sumabay sa pagbabago. Together, we will support events like this to help young leaders like you stay ahead and make a real impact.”
Congressman Antonino Roman III encouraged the youth to drive social change, saying, “Empowering the youth to drive social initiatives and foster peace, justice, and inclusivity – they are all the little things that we do everyday.”
The Bataan leg of the Global Youth Summit is one of 17 summits happening in SM malls nationwide, beginning at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. Each summit serves as a platform for collaboration and networking, reinforcing SM Cares and GPF’s mission to provide young people with opportunities to create positive impact in their communities.
This initiative also aligns with SM Supermalls’ 40th anniversary, celebrating four decades of shaping meaningful connections with Filipinos while evolving through sustainability, innovation, and inclusivity.
