The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) has given the green light to 194 high-impact infrastructure flagship projects (IFPs), amounting to PHP 9 trillion. The projects primarily aim to develop transportation infrastructure, including expressways, road networks, railways, and airports. Additionally, the projects cover water resources, such as irrigation, water supply, and flood management, as well as farm-to-market roads to improve the country’s food security and physical connectivity.
The BBM infrastructure program, which follows the “Build Build Build” economic strategy of the previous administration, will generate job opportunities for locals and make the country more appealing to foreign investors. Cement companies, such as Century Peak Cement, expect to gain a competitive advantage through the BBM program. The company is a new local market player and a subsidiary of Century Peak Holdings Corporation (CPM), a listed firm that expanded its purpose to engage in various activities related to construction, land reclamation and development, real estate, mining, power, and energy in the Philippines in 2019.
They uses the latest cement production technology to create locally sourced and sustainable products. The company reforests temporarily altered areas with indigenous and endemic trees and employs a closed-circuit system through a wastewater treatment facility (WWTF) that leads to zero water discharge to protect nearby bodies of water. As the youngest player in a highly competitive industry, It takes pride in its all-Filipino manufacturing brand and contributes to nation-building.
Moreover, Century Peak Cement’s strategic location near its pier enables it to distribute its products conveniently throughout the country. According to Katrina C. Keng, the spokesperson for Century Peak Cement, “We, at Century Peak Cement, fully support the BBM thrust of the government, and this primarily stems from the fact that we are a proud Filipino brand.”
