Huawei has released their latest mid-range phone for their Nova series – the Nova 9. The Huawei Nova 9 is the higher version of its predecessor, Nova 8, that was released last August.
Is the latest version better than the Nova 8? Is it worth it for the price of Php 23,999? The jump from Nova 8 to Nova 9 gives you a more powerful chipset, bigger and a more quality display, larger storage, and a flagship-grade main display camera.
Here is the unboxing and first impression of the Nova 9.
Opening the box, the phone is the first thing you will see. Below the main product it houses the SIM Tray Ejector tool and the free Jelly Case. Next, you will immediately see the accompanied accessories of the phone which are the USB-C cable, and the 66W power brick. That’s about it!
Let’s know delve deeper on the phone itself.
DESIGN
The build of the Nova 9 is quite similar to its predecessor but with a slightly different design. It differs with its premium glass back design, a polycarbonate camera island with a glass-like cover, polycarbonate frame and buttons, and a glass display.
Near the SIM card tray, it is covered by a greyish rubber gasket that helps prevent water splashes from entering. In terms of the display, it has an extra layer of screen protector to prevent the display from scratches.
DISPLAY
On the design feature, the Nova 9 is made with 3D curved glass with a double-coated finish. It is available in two colors which are Starry Blue and Black. The unit has a matte-like finish that helps in preventing too much fingerprint smudges.
The camera island of the device is similar to its predecessor, but it has a larger circular bezel that covers the main camera display. The other cameras are arranged in a diamond pattern to fit the camera island.
At front, it has minimal difference to the Nova 8. It still has a 6.57-inch OLED display with a center-top punch hole. The bezels are very slim on every side except the chin bezel. You will notice the upgrade in the display, during your use because of the smoother 120Hz refresh rate and a higher 300Hz touch sampling.
CAMERA
The Nova 9 has a primary shooter which is equivalent to that of flagship phones. It has a 50MP f/1.9 RYYB shooter with a 1/1.56-inch size + PDAF, CAF, AIS.
The other cameras comprise of an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle. A 2MP f/2.4 macro + 2MP f/2.4 depth + LED flash.
