Proton, the Swiss company known for its privacy-centric services like Proton Mail and Proton VPN, has launched a new privacy-focused AI chatbot designed to offer a secure alternative to mainstream AI tools. Named Proton Scribe, the chatbot leverages artificial intelligence without compromising user privacy—a core value of the company.
Unlike many AI tools from big tech firms that log user data for training or ad targeting, Proton Scribe ensures conversations are not stored or used for model development. The company promises end-to-end encryption and anonymity as central pillars of the chatbot’s infrastructure.
The privacy-focused AI chatbot is currently available through Proton’s web interface, with plans to integrate it across other Proton services. Powered by an undisclosed third-party AI provider, the chatbot operates within a privacy-enhanced wrapper, preventing the underlying AI provider from accessing user identities or input histories.
This launch positions Proton as a unique contender in the rapidly expanding AI assistant space—where convenience often comes at the expense of user data. By prioritizing privacy from the ground up, Proton Scribe aims to appeal to users wary of surveillance capitalism and algorithmic profiling.
Proton’s entry with its privacy-focused AI chatbot reinforces its broader mission: to build a better internet where privacy is the default, not the exception.
