The Eco-Friendly Vero Products from Acer
It has always been challenging to find the sweet spot between environmental friendliness, recycled material content, and product longevity. Acer and its designers and partners have been hard at work developing novel approaches to using more environmentally friendly materials without compromising on reliability.
The Aspire Vero was Acer’s first “green” laptop to lessen environmental damage caused by the creation of virgin plastic and waste. Without sacrificing its processing performance or quality, the device was also made repairable and upgradable in a straightforward manner. In addition, Aspire Vero’s packaging has been rethought from the ground up using a design methodology that is applicable across a wide range of product categories, device sizes, and packaging components. The packaging itself is made up of 80-85% post-consumer recycled paper pulp, and the adapters are protected by paper sleeves. As an added bonus, both the laptop case and the sheet that sits beneath the keyboard are crafted from 100% PET that has been recycled. Every other portion of the package may be recycled, and the divider within can be used again. Acer is committed to developing products with up to 30% PCR plastic content across its products by 2025. As such, the company is always looking for new, environmentally friendly materials.
Supply Chain Management That Doesn’t Hurt the Environment
Acer is working harder with its partners Compal and Quanta to improve their waste management systems to reduce the environmental impact of their production operations. Acer aims to develop more responsible manufacturing and logistics processes, such as decreasing the usage of plastic bags on the production line and adopting changes toward sustainability in suppliers’ manufacturing systems. One of the modifications to decrease non-recyclable waste in its logistics system was eliminating surplus security tape used in the pallet packing process. To further its green mission, Acer has also established a carbon accounting system for its transportation operations.
Smart City Solutions From Acer
Acer is developing smart city solutions to reduce resource waste and create more efficient and sustainable lifestyles. Acer has developed an automated roadside parking and EV charging solution in numerous cities to help drivers decrease idle time and energy usage, decreasing traffic and carbon emissions. Acer’s smart solutions conserve water, monitor air quality, and improve the environment.
Acer’s Goal of 100% Renewable Energy by 2035
The Acer Group is committed to 100% renewable energy by 2035. Starting as early as 2011, Acer operations have been using green energy, with some sites even installing solar panels to generate their own electricity. This is in addition to the launch of the “Earthion” platform and the adoption of the CDP’s worldwide disclosure system. In 2020, Acer offices in over 30 countries were seen to be powered entirely by renewable energy and only use 45% nonrenewable energy.
The Acer Green Day 21-Day Challenge
As part of its Earthion objective, Acer encouraged its staff to adopt environmentally friendly routines by launching a “21-Day Challenge” on Acer Green Day. The staff of Acer’s partners and suppliers, as well as Acer’s customers, are now also up against this threat.
