Baclayon Church

Did you know that the Baclayon Church is the oldest Christian settlement in Bohol? Its construction began in 1717, the same year it was elevated to the status of a parish. To build the magnificent structure, 200 obras pias, or native forced laborers, had to drag coral stones from the ocean.

While the Panglao Church is no stranger to the history of Bohol. Older Panglao Church facade fragments suggest that it may have been baroque in style although it was previously destroyed in 1886, at which time it is said that a temporary church made of wood and tabique was built.

It is primarily made up of Mahogany trees, arranged densely over a distance of about 2 kilometers in the towns of Bilar and Loboc. An ideal location for tourists to be inspired by nature. Some visitors even spend 30 minutes to an hour here to take in the fresh air and enjoy the sounds of the trees and birds.
