Grab users now have a greener way to ride with the launch of GrabTaxi Electric, the country’s first fully electric, on-demand taxi fleet. This game-changing service, introduced in partnership with EV Taxi Corp, is now available through the Grab app and is currently operating in select Metro Manila areas including Makati, Taguig, Pasig, Mandaluyong, Parañaque, and Pasay.
To book an electric taxi, users simply tap the Standard Car option in the Grab app and toggle the electric taxi filter. While the feature is still in its beta stage, it’s already making waves among environmentally conscious commuters and tech-savvy riders.
Greener Rides, Smarter Travel
The electric taxi fleet promises not only zero emissions but also a more cost-efficient ride. According to Grab’s fare matrix, the Grab EV taxi charges:
- ₱69 booking fee
- ₱50 flag down rate (first 500 meters)
- ₱2.00 per minute of travel
- ₱13.50 for each succeeding kilometer
For example, a trip from SM North EDSA to SM Megamall using a standard GrabCar may cost ₱319, while the electric taxi fare ranges between ₱294 to ₱353, depending on real-time traffic and duration.
As with other Grab services, the app also shows the estimated time of arrival, giving users a heads-up on how far the nearest electric cab is from their location.
A Step Toward Sustainable Urban Mobility
GrabTaxi Electric is part of Grab’s broader initiative to push for sustainable transportation in the Philippines. With limited availability for now, this pilot rollout is a crucial first step toward a more eco-conscious future for daily commuting.
So next time you book a ride, look for the electric toggle—because the road to a greener city begins with one ride at a time.
