Manila Water continues to champion environmental stewardship and public health through its Manila Water desludging program, actively engaging communities across Metro Manila’s East Zone and parts of Rizal Province. This July, the company is ramping up its efforts to educate and mobilize barangays in support of its regular septic tank desludging service.
Aimed at improving sanitation, preventing pollution, and promoting safe water management, the Manila Water desludging program has become a critical initiative in fostering healthier living environments. By providing free septic tank cleaning in designated areas, Manila Water encourages households to take advantage of this essential service.
To bolster participation, the company conducts comprehensive Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaigns ahead of each rollout. These sessions, done in close coordination with local government units and barangay leaders, ensure that residents understand the importance of desludging, how it works, and how to prepare for it.
“Desludging is a shared responsibility,” emphasized Jeric Sevilla, Director of Manila Water’s Corporate Communication Affairs Group. “Our IEC program ensures that every community member is empowered with the right knowledge to take action and make sanitation a collective goal.”
This July, the Manila Water desludging program reaches a wide range of barangays, including areas in Antipolo, Taytay, Angono, Binangonan, Rodriguez (Montalban), San Mateo, Marikina, Pasig City, Quezon City, San Juan City, and Mandaluyong City. The initiative targets key barangays such as San Jose, San Isidro, Bagong Pag-asa, and Industrial Valley Complex, among many others.
Aside from maintaining septic systems, regular desludging prevents wastewater overflows, protects vital water resources, and reduces the spread of waterborne diseases. The active participation of residents not only contributes to a cleaner community but also strengthens collective resilience to environmental challenges.
