The Philippine passport has climbed to the 72nd spot among the world’s most powerful passports in 2024, out of 199 countries, according to the latest Henley Passport Index. This marks a significant improvement in global mobility for Filipino travelers, allowing visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 67 destinations.

The PH passport now 72nd globally reflects the country’s steady efforts in strengthening diplomatic relations and boosting international travel freedom. In comparison, last year’s index ranked the Philippines lower, signaling this year’s jump as a positive development for business, tourism, and global opportunities for Filipinos.

While top-tier passports like France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Singapore grant access to over 190 destinations visa-free, the Philippines continues to close the gap. Regional neighbors such as Malaysia (12th) and Indonesia (60th) still lead in Southeast Asia, but the Philippines is narrowing its disadvantage with gradual year-on-year gains.

The PH passport now 72nd brings hope to overseas workers, leisure travelers, and international students who benefit from reduced travel restrictions. As the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and other agencies strive for better bilateral agreements, more doors may soon open for the Filipino passport.
